The early bird sign-up deadline has been extended to April 15!
Check out www.boyscouts-ncac.org for the many different summer camp opportunities offered.
You can sign up individually or as a den for any camp, but as a pack we will be attending the Cub Scout Summer Day Camp at Burke Lake Park, July 23-27. The theme this year is "Land of the Pharaohs". Theme-based activities will include learning about hieroglyphics, studying mummies, and "Indiana Jones" type adventures.
For those that have not attended the day camp yet, it is a wonderful experience for your scout. There are several opportunities to earn belt loops, pins, and patches. At Burke Lake there is the opportunity to learn BB Gun Shooting, archery, and fishing, along with theme-based activities. Just what a cub scout wants to do!
The camp is very well staffed with many adults, college students, and older boy scouts. The camp is also very well organized with daily schedules, routines, rules, etc. Safety and appropriate behavior are stressed and enforced. The scouts are supervised by adults at all times.
One adult from the pack must be present for every 5 boys. This usually means that one parent of each scout, must plan to attend the camp for one day. That person serves as a "Den Walker" for the day, escorting the scouts from activity to activity and monitoring behavior.
To sign up for this camp, you must go through the pack Day Camp Coordinator, Pam Dodd, who will register the pack as a whole group, online. The fee is $125 (check made out to Pam Dodd), if you sign up before April 15. After April 15 the fee is $135. The fee includes a T-shirt, water bottle, and patch. There is a registration form that can be found online. Additional T-shirts can be purchased (add to check made out to Pam Dodd).
If enough scouts register, we can plan to carpool.
If you are interested or have any questions, please e-mail me at
tiggerdodd@aol.com I will need your check and registration form by April 15, which can be mailed or dropped off: Pam Dodd, 2006 Labrador Lane, Vienna, VA 22182.
Hope to see you at camp!
