Minutes of Pack 1116 Leaders’ Meeting, 2 December 2005
Attendees: Piper S., Cliff H., Jim B., Cyndy D., Matt B., Mike S., Richard K., Stephen G., Kim F., Jere S., Ed T., Leigh B
--The Treasurer presented a report of the current status of Pack funds, as well as an update of the proceeds realized by the popcorn sales. Any popcorn sales made beyond this date are clear profit. Packs should consider setting up dates to sell remaining popcorn stock at indoor locations, such as Borders, during the holiday season. Reminder—all prize information is due on 3 January 2006, so please finalize prize sheets at December den meetings.
--Mike S., Pack Webmaster, demonstrated the new website for Pack 1116. The site will host pack and den calendars, links to various scouting resources, photographs of pack activities (if parental permission has been obtained to post photographs), minutes of pack meetings, and address links to den and pack leaders, etc. The site has a link on the VPC website and the Town of Vienna website. One can access the site directly at http://www.Pack1116.org , will be emailed to all and distributed at the next Pack meeting. The webmaster can be reached at Webmaster@Pack1116.org
--December’s Holiday Pack Meeting will feature WolfTrap Elementary School’s choral singers at 7:30. Prior to the singing, the boys will create decorated paper chains to festoon the Vienna Community Center’s Christmas tree. There will also be the opportunity for the boys to craft pipe cleaners and beads into candy cane and wreath ornaments. Den 7 is responsible for the meeting’s gathering ceremony, Den 4 is in charge of the opening and closing.
--Jim C. is the lead for this year’s Pinewood Derby. He is having the first committee meeting next Wednesday evening, 8 Dec., at VPC. So far, it has been determined that a bake sake will be held and leftover popcorn stock will be sold at the event.
--The Pack will have a Scout Super Bowl on the day of the Super Bowl. There is no lead on this activity yet, although several attendees volunteered to give the matter some thought. It was determined that multiple flag football games could be held at the Colvin Run field. The matches could be den-based.
--The Pack’s annual camping venture will most likely be held 3,4 June at Lake Fairfax. The pros and cons of other venues were discussed (Pohick, Bull Run Regional, Fountainhead), but it was decided that to maximize participation Lake Fairfax is easiest and most familiar to our families. It was suggested that perhaps an orienteering activity at Pohick could be arranged this year so that the park could be considered for next year’s camping trip. Additionally, it was determined that a 2-night outing is too much for most families during the sports season, and it is best to keep our Pack campout to just 1 night. Volunteers for the committee are being sought to organize activities.
